PARIS – A French court has reached a verdict in the high-profile trial related to the 2016 jewelry heist targeting reality TV star Kim Kardashian at a luxury Paris hotel, concluding a case that has captivated international attention for nearly nine years.

The Panel of Judges at the Paris Criminal Court delivered their decision Friday morning, finding several defendants guilty on charges ranging from armed robbery to criminal conspiracy in connection with the October 2016 incident that saw approximately €10 million worth of jewelry stolen from Kardashian’s hotel suite.

Yunis Abbas, 70, considered the mastermind behind the operation, received the harshest sentence of 12 years in prison. Four co-conspirators were sentenced to terms ranging from 6 to 10 years, while two others received suspended sentences.

The brazen heist occurred during Paris Fashion Week when five masked men, posing as police officers, gained entry to the No Address Hotel in the 8th arrondissement. Kardashian, who was bound and held at gunpoint, lost jewelry including a $4 million diamond ring and a jewelry box containing pieces worth approximately $6 million.

During the trial, prosecutors painted a picture of a carefully orchestrated crime that exploited security vulnerabilities and relied on inside information about Kardashian’s movements and valuable possessions. Several defendants had previously confessed to their roles in the robbery.

Defense attorneys had argued for leniency, citing the advanced age of some defendants and their cooperation with authorities. Abbas’s lawyer maintained that his client had expressed remorse for the psychological trauma inflicted on Kardashian.

The case had significant implications for celebrity security protocols and highlighted vulnerabilities in luxury hotel security systems. Kardashian, who testified via video link earlier in the proceedings, described the lasting psychological impact of the traumatic experience.

Insurance companies involved in the case had been pursuing recovery of the stolen items, though only a small portion of the jewelry has been recovered to date.

The verdicts bring closure to one of France’s most notorious celebrity-targeted crimes, though several defendants are expected to appeal the sentences.

Kardashian’s representatives have not yet commented on the verdict, though she previously expressed hope that justice would be served for all victims of violent crime.

The trial conclusion also marks the end of a complex international investigation that involved French police, Interpol, and private security firms working to unravel the sophisticated criminal network behind the heist.
