Rivers LP Faction Collapses Structure Into ADC, Backs Peter Obi For Presidency

The Nenadi Usman-led faction of the Labor Party in Rivers State has officially collapsed its entire party structure into the African Democratic Congress (ADC), marking a major political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The decision was announced on Monday by the faction’s Chairman, Gogo Wellington, during a press conference attended by party stalwarts and supporters in the state.

Addressing party members, Wellington called on Labor Party faithful and members of the Obidient Movement across Rivers State to throw their weight behind the party’s former presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

He urged supporters in all the 23 local government areas of the state to align with the ADC, which has been adopted by a coalition of opposition leaders seeking to unseat President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

“We urge all Labor Party supporters in the 23 local government areas of Rivers State to join our leader, Mr Peter Obi, in the African Democratic Congress, ADC,” Wellington said.

Wellington explained that the decision to collapse the party structure was informed by the prevailing economic hardship and worsening insecurity in the country.

According to him, the current situation demands urgent collective action by like-minded Nigerians who desire a change in leadership and governance.

“The deteriorating situation of our economy and worsening insecurity have made it evident that the time to rescue this nation is now or never,” he added.

The Rivers LP faction chairman also appealed directly to members of the Obidient Movement, a key support base of Peter Obi during the 2023 presidential election, to embrace the new political platform.

“We call on all members of the Obidient Movement to join the coalition for a better Nigeria,” Wellington said.

Naija News reports that Obi, the Labor Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, recently defected to the ADC after joining a coalition of opposition leaders strategizing to challenge President Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

His defection has continued to trigger similar moves by his loyalists across states, with the Rivers State collapse of the Nenadi Usman-led LP faction into the ADC seen as one of the most significant so far.
