The incident was confirmed on Friday by the Bauchi State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
Briefing journalists at his office, the Sector Commander, CC Apaji Danladi Boyi, said the accident occurred at about 6:20 am on the Jama’are-Azare axis of the highway.
According to him, the crash involved a commercial vehicle with registration number KTG 181 ZZ, which was conveying 19 passengers from Gombe State to Kano.

The FRSC boss disclosed that preliminary investigations pointed to overspeeding, fatigue and loss of control as the likely causes of the crash, noting that further investigations were still ongoing to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
“Preliminary findings suggest that overspeeding, fatigue and loss of control may have contributed to the crash,he said.
Boyi explained that FRSC personnel promptly responded to the scene, rescuing the injured passengers and conveying them to the Federal Medical Centre, Azare, for medical attention.
He added that the bodies of the deceased passengers were deposited at the hospital’s morgue, pending identification and collection by their relatives.
The sector commander assured residents that the corps’ Operation Zero was ongoing across Bauchi State, with officers deployed to monitor major highways and enforce traffic regulations.
He urged motorists to exercise caution and adhere strictly to traffic rules, especially as vehicular movement remained heavy following the Yuletide and New Year holidays.
“Travellers are returning to their various destinations, and traffic volume is still high. Motorists must obey traffic rules to prevent avoidable crashes,Boyi warned.
