Family Stands Firm Against Cover-Up in Sudden Death of Ex-SDP Hopeful Akingboye
The family of Otunba Bamidele Akingboye, the former Social Democratic Party candidate for governor in Nigeria’s Ondo State, is digging in their heels. They’re determined not to let anyone bury the truth about his unexpected death last week.
In a heartfelt statement signed by family elders Papa CM Betiku and Pastor Akinyemi Michael Akingboye, they called the loss heartbreaking. “Truth and justice have to come out,” they said plainly. They warned that anyone trying to hide what happened would face both divine consequences and the full weight of the law. “We’ll push back hard against any cover-up,” the note added.
Relatives gave a nod to Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, praising his quick response and promise that this won’t get brushed aside.
Gathering at the family home in Okitipupa, loved ones remembered Akingboye as a self-made man. He started from humble roots, grew successful businesses, raised a big family, and always lent a hand to folks in the community and up-and-coming leaders.
He leaves behind two wives and eight children. His first wife, Biola Akingboye, gave him three kids, all grown, married, and settled overseas. The oldest, Samuel, runs his own business and was the first to question the official story. He’d seen his dad just the day before, full of life, and they’d even planned to talk more. But then the call came—his father gone, with explanations that just didn’t add up. Samuel filed a formal complaint right away, kicking off the police probe that’s still underway.
Akingboye’s second wife, Christianah, shared five kids with him. That fateful day, she was home with four of the children, her siblings, and around 13 staff members. What they found raised red flags: bruises on his face and arm, clothes stained with blood, and his body in the backyard path to the boys’ quarters.
The family thanked the Nigeria Police Force, especially the homicide team out of Panti in Lagos’ Yaba area, for bringing in experts and digging deep with both tech and old-school methods.
“We’re not backing down,” the statement wrapped up. “We want the full story out there—for him, for Ondo, and for everyone watching down the line.”
Akingboye’s passing, known for his generous spirit, has folks from near and far fired up, calling loud for real answers.
