nollywood actress, Bimbo Thomas, has shared details of her long struggle with severe menstrual bleeding and the health crisis that later revealed a fibroid condition.
Speaking during an interview with media personality Chude, the actress explained that she had experienced unusually heavy menstrual flow since her teenage years.
According to her, her periods often lasted far longer than normal, sometimes stretching to nine or even 14 days, leaving her weak and exhausted.
She said the situation became worse after she became a mother, as her menstrual cycle returned just three months after childbirth and was heavier than ever.
Naija News reports that the actress revealed that the intense bleeding often caused her to lose consciousness repeatedly, a situation that became a regular monthly experience for her and those around her.
Thomas explained that people close to her had grown used to her condition, as she would often zone out or collapse during her time of the month due to extreme blood loss and pain.
In early 2021, she decided to seek medical help and was referred to a doctor identified as Dr. Ahmed.
After undergoing several medical tests, she was told that her overall health was stable but that she had fibroids in her uterus.
She was advised that surgery would be the best option if she wanted lasting relief.
She initially struggled with the idea of surgery and its possible consequences.
However, during one of her menstrual cycles, she experienced a frightening episode marked by severe pain and abnormal tissue coming out of her body.
The pain became unbearable, prompting her to seek urgent medical attention late at night.
Further examination revealed that the fibroid had grown very large inside her uterus, posing a serious threat to her health.
She was informed that removing it was unavoidable and that the procedure came with major risks.
The actress described the decision as a critical one, explaining that the surgery was necessary to save her life, even though it carried the possibility of losing her womb.
