CUNEO, Italy – September 15, 2025. A tragic accident happened in the Cuneo mountains. A 61-year-old man slipped on a hiking path. He died right away. This makes him the eighth person to die in these mountains this summer.
The victim was Ezio Rossi. He was a pneumologist. That means a lung doctor. He lived in Carmagnola, near Turin. Rossi loved hiking. He went out alone on Sunday, September 14. He did not come back home.
His wife got worried. She called for help in the evening. The search started around 10 PM. Teams looked for him all night. They found his car first. It was parked in località Baraccone di Sant’Anna di Vinadio. This is in the alta valle Stura area. It is above the town of Vinadio.
Rescuers used a digital app to track him. The app gave a signal. They followed it. They found Rossi’s body in a rough spot. It was between the peaks of Ciastella and Lausa Bruna. These are high mountains in the area. The place is rugged. It has steep paths and rocks.
Doctors say he slipped on the path. He fell and hit hard. He died on the spot. There were no other injuries from a long fall. It was quick.
Many teams helped in the search. The Soccorso alpino e speleologico piemontese was there. That is the Piedmont alpine rescue group. The vigili del fuoco came too. They are firefighters. They brought special units: Ucl, Saf, and Tas. These handle command, rescues, and topography. The Soccorso alpino della guardia di finanza joined. They are mountain police rescuers.
In the morning, a helicopter flew in. It was the Drago 66 from the Torino fire brigade. They picked up the body. They took it to Vinadio. Now, officials will check more. They want to know exactly what happened.
This is not the first time. The Cuneo mountains are beautiful. They are in the Italian Alps. People come to hike. But they can be dangerous. Slippery paths. Bad weather. Rocks that fall. This summer has been bad. Seven others died before Rossi.
One was in August. A young climber fell in Val Varaita. Another slipped in alta val Maira. Some were from Turin area. Others were tourists. Officials say hikers must be careful. Wear good shoes. Check weather. Tell someone your plan. Use apps for safety.
Rossi’s family is sad. Friends remember him as kind. He helped many as a doctor. The community mourns. They want better signs on paths.
Authorities warn everyone. Mountains are fun. But respect them. One slip can end it all. Stay safe out there.
