Spy Shots: Renault’s New Kwid EV Spotted Testing in India – What the Leaks Show
The Renault Kwid has been a go-to budget car in India for years now. It’s gotten a few updates to stay relevant, but Renault looks like they’re stepping things up with an electric twist. Spy shots of the Kwid EV have popped up again, giving us a peek at what’s coming. Let’s break it down.
New Renault Kwid EV
Renault’s been quiet about EVs in India, but this isn’t their first try. They tested a Kiger EV once, but it faded out. Now, the Kwid EV seems closer to reality, with test mules showing up multiple times on Indian roads.

These latest pics from Chennai show a car that doesn’t match the current Kwid much. It looks a lot like the Dacia Spring EV sold elsewhere, with a taller, boxier shape. No exhaust pipe confirms it’s electric. The front has a cutout for the charging port right in the middle of the grille, which makes plugging in easier than side ports.

Even with heavy camo, you can spot Y-shaped LED daytime lights, halogen headlights below, and a bull-bar style bumper. It’s rolling on 14-inch steel wheels, flip-up door handles, and thick cladding for that mini-SUV vibe. At the back, expect matching Y-shaped taillights, a black strip with the Renault logo, plus a wiper and defogger.
What to Expect?
Inside, it might get a 10-inch touchscreen and 7-inch digital cluster. Based on the Dacia Spring, look for a 26.8 kWh battery with about 225-304 km range, and motors making 45 or 65 hp. Renault could localize parts to keep prices low, maybe starting around ₹5 lakh, undercutting rivals like the Tata Tiago EV. No firm launch date yet, but these sightings hint it’s coming soon.
