New Renault Duster: What India Gets That Others Don’t

Renault has revived the legendary Duster in India with its third-generation model (unveiled in January 2026), positioning it as a premium, feature-loaded midsize SUV to take on rivals like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara. While the global Duster (sold as Dacia in Europe and other markets) is already available in many countries, the India-spec version is not a direct copy. Renault has heavily customized it—up to 90% re-engineered for Indian roads, preferences, and conditions—making it more luxurious, tech-rich, and practical than its global counterparts.

Bookings are open (₹21,000 token), with deliveries starting April 2026 and prices expected in March. Here’s what makes the India-spec New Duster stand out and what it gets that buyers in Europe, Australia, South Africa, or other markets don’t.

Key India-Exclusive Features

Renault has loaded the Indian Duster with premium touches that global versions miss, focusing on comfort, convenience, and aspirational appeal.

  • Panoramic Sunroof A massive glass roof extending over both rows—India’s Duster gets this as standard on higher variants. Global models (including Europe and Australia) typically offer only a standard sunroof or none at all. This feature dramatically enhances cabin openness and is a huge draw for Indian families.
  • Powered & Ventilated Front Seats Electrically adjustable driver’s seat with ventilation (cooling) for hot Indian summers—exclusive to India. Global Dusters have manual seats or basic power adjustment without ventilation.
  • Connected LED Tail-Lamp Strip A sleek, full-width LED light bar connecting the taillights—adds a premium, modern look. Global versions use separate triangular taillights without this connected strip.
  • “Duster” Branding on Grille Instead of “Renault” lettering (common globally), India gets bold “Duster” badging upfront. This taps into the strong brand recall from the original Duster that pioneered the segment here.
  • Powered Tailgate Electric boot opening—convenient for loading luggage. Not standard on most global Dusters.
  • More Premium Interior Materials & Layout Softer-touch dashboard, door panels, and seats with leatherette finish, 48-color ambient lighting, dual-zone climate control with PM2.5 filter, and a raised center console. Global interiors are more functional and rugged, with fewer soft-touch surfaces and less ambient lighting.

India-Specific Powertrain Choices

Renault tailored the engines for Indian buyers’ needs—mixing performance, efficiency, and no diesel (which is fading in the segment).

  • Turbo TCe 160 (1.3L Petrol): 163 PS / 280 Nm – the most powerful in the segment. Available with 6-speed manual or 6-speed dual-clutch automatic. Global versions often get a less powerful 1.3L or 1.2L turbo.
  • Turbo TCe 100 (1.0L Petrol): 100 PS / 160 Nm – entry-level with 6-speed manual. This three-cylinder unit is exclusive to India (not offered in most global markets).
  • Strong Hybrid E-Tech 160 (1.8L Petrol + Electric): 160 PS combined, up to 80% electric mode in city driving. Uses a 1.4 kWh battery and 8-speed automatic. Global hybrids use smaller 1.2L engines and are less advanced. Launch expected Diwali 2026.

No AWD in India (unlike Europe, South Africa, or Australia, where 4×4 options exist). Renault prioritized cost and efficiency for Indian buyers over off-road capability.

Other Standout Advantages for India

  • Higher Ground Clearance (212 mm) and optimized angles (approach 26.9°, departure 34.7°) for Indian potholes and bad roads.
  • Advanced Tech: 10.1-inch touchscreen with Google built-in (Gemini AI, native Google apps), 10.25-inch digital cluster, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, wireless charger, Arkamys sound system, and Level-2 ADAS (first Renault in India with AEB, lane keep assist, etc.).
  • Practicality: 518L boot (expandable), 6 airbags standard, 360° camera, and My Renault connected features.
  • Built for India: Assembled in Chennai on a localized CMF-B platform, with 90% India-specific engineering for ride comfort, durability, and features.

The India-spec New Duster is essentially a premium, India-first version—more loaded with aspirational features, powerful engines, and hybrid tech tailored for our traffic, climate, and family needs. Renault skipped the second-gen Duster here to deliver this upgraded third-gen model directly.

If you’re eyeing a midsize SUV, this Duster could be a strong contender with its unique blend of ruggedness and luxury. What do you think—panoramic sunroof or the hybrid engine excite you most? Stay tuned for March pricing! 🚙
